See AllCoal Creek Track The path gently descends down to the Coal Creek valley though a mixed beech-podocarp forest.The pool below the falls is a nice place to cool off with a swim in the hot summer months.Take particular care to look out for underwater rocks and logs before jumping in.Getting there:From Greymouth follow SH6 northeast for 8 km to Runanga. Turn right down Seddon Street and right into Ballance Street. There is a carpark at the end of Ballance Street.West Coast Wilderness Trail On your trusty bike you'll wind your way through ancient rainforests, along glacial rivers, around moody lakes and across some downright cracking wetlands. You'll cycle early bush tram lines and water races passing former goldmining towns and workings, historic bridges and much more. You can do it all at once - across four days - or just nab the odd day-trip. Either way, it's a spectacular way to journey though alpine forests to the rugged Tasman Sea.Woods Creek Track Be sure to take a torch on this walk to explore the fascinating tunnels once used by gold miners.In addition to the remnants of tunnels, races and walls of stacked stone you will pass through mature and regenerating forest.The walk can be covered in under 45 minutes but allow extra time for exploring. Getting there: Drive south from Greymouth on SH6 for 8 km to Paroa, and turn left onto the road towards Shantytown. Travel down this road for 22 km east, mostly on sealed road, past both Marsden and Dunganville. The last part of the road currently passes through an active modern mining site. For safety reasons, obey the signs and stay in your car until you reach the Woods Creek car park.Westland Recreation Centre The Westland Recreation Centre is the sports and recreation hub of Greymouth and wider region. It has swimming pools, hydroslides, spa, sauna, gym, group fitness classes, sports stadium for multi sporting codes, an activity/meeting room and much more.Point Elizabeth Walkway A stunning, well surfaced, coastal walkway. Enjoy walking through varied and interesting forest to a panoramic, cliff top viewing platform. Point Elizabeth track is a perfect walk for families and children. Point Elizabeth Walkway is an interesting coastal/bush walk with good views and a few sites of historic interest along the way. From its northern (Rapahoe) end the track climbs to an open terrace with slowly regenerating in native growth after years of farming. Beyond there, in Rapahoe Scenic Reserve, one of the finest remaining tracts of mixed coastal forest in New Zealand extends from the limestone range out to the cliff edge.Shantytown Shantytown is a tourist attraction in the West Coast Region of the South Island of New Zealand. Located 10 km south of Greymouth, the town was constructed and opened in the early 1970s and consists of 30 re-created historic buildings making up a 19th-century gold-mining town. The town is surrounded by native forest, and is one of the region's most popular attractions.Pancake Rocks and Blowholes Dolomite Point and its Pancake Rocks are predominantly limestone, worn and sculptured by the weather and sea, leaving unique stacks resembling pancakes layered on top of each other. The sealed track is very well maintained and is suitable, with some assistance, for wheelchairs. The Department of Conservation has installed information boards at locations of interest along the track. At the coastline the track has many lookouts and areas for fantastic photos to be taken of the Pancake Rocks, blowholes and beautiful views of the coast and mountains. Allow approximately 45 minutes to explore and take photographs.On Yer Bike! Challenge yourself by hopping into a vehicle of your choice, whether it be a quad bike, buggy or mighty haggland and take on some of the very best off-road tracks on the West Coast.
